A lovely surprise from MikroElektronika: they have just released their new Feather Click shield, an adapter board that adds two mikroBus sockets to a Feather board of your choice.
The feather board format is well-known to the maker community, is the Adafruit’s standardized open-source development platform for IoT projects. Currently, Adafruit offers a wide range of Feather boards, of which I would like to mention the ESP866 and ESP32 boards, which I have used in some of my projects. Other options are available, too — let’s just say Bluetooth connectivity, for example.
Besides this, the Feather ecosystem comes with its expansion boards, known as FeatherWing. One can find displays, GPS, RTC & SD card, LoRa, only to name a few.
The best news: one can still add FeatherWing boards while having the Feather board plugged into the new Feather Click shield. Furthermore, one can use the mikroBUS Shuttle click and mikroBus Shuttle boards to add even more mikroBUS sockets.
Then, one can choose from the wide range of 3.3V click boards available — right now, there are 339 click boards with 3.3V power supply. Click boards that use 5V logic levels are not supported.
And regarding the supply, one more thing — the Feather click shield comes with its own power supply, with USB-C connector and an MP9943AGQ-Z step-down convertor capable of delivering a peak current of up to 3A.
an nice product. I can foresee a lot of IoT projects built around
this click shield. However, are some small issues: when used with ESP8266 feather boards, one cannot combine I2C and SPI boards together, as there's a pin conflict. Furthermore, with some Arduino feather boards the mikroBUS socket #2 cannot use SPI.
